Every time I visited Mauritius for as long as she lived there, she would make a point of cooking for me and having me for dinner at her house. She would always be delighted when I would ask her to make Creme Caramel for me. Her Creme Caramel would always be soft and silky with very few bubbles inside, if any at all. The most unbelievable part of it was that she cooked it in a pressure cooker!

Murukku is a snack that is seen a lot in Mauritius, in particular in the Indo-Mauritian community. I have also eaten it in Malaysia, Singapore and India. When I was young, relatives used to make large quantities in preparation for Divali, grinding rice in a huge mortar and pestle and a stone grinder. They would prepare sweet treats and savoury snacks to distribute to friends and relatives. In this post I share my recipe.
